A 19-year-old Victorville man is behind bars in connection with a weekend shooting that killed a 17-year-old San Bernardino boy at a Rialto party, according to investigators and jail records.
Deangelo Levondra Rand was arrested at 6:30 a.m. Sunday, July 29, and booked for investigation of murder, attempted murder, participation in a criminal street gang, and negligent discharge of a firearm, booking records show.
The gunfire was reported at 12:17 a.m. Saturday, July 28, along the 500 block of East Shamrock Street.
The victim was standing in front of a house where a large crowd of partygoers had congregated, say Rialto police and San Bernardino County coroner’s officials.
“The victim was checking a rival gang member for weapons when one of them began shooting at him,” coroner’s officials said in a written statement. “The suspects left … in a silver BMW with chrome rims.”
The wounded teen died at the scene at 12:42 a.m. Police are withholding his name, according to the coroner’s statement.
Rand was arrested in the Victorville area by San Bernardino County deputy sheriffs and turned over to Rialto police detectives, said Rialto police watch commander Sgt. Richard Royce.
