Three people were arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and other crimes after a person was beaten at gunpoint, taken to another location and robbed, Riverside County sheriff’s deputies said.
Perris/Lake Elsinore and Murrieta/Temecula regional Gang Task Force members investigated a reported kidnapping at the Rodeway Inn at 31820 Railroad Canyon Road in Canyon Lake early Saturday morning, a sheriff’s news release stated. The victim was beaten, and then taken to another location not disclosed by sheriff’s deputies, and then robbed.
Deputies later identified two of the suspects and during surveillance operation in the 20000 block of Bryant in Wildomar saw them pull up in a white Mercedes-Benz with another man driving. The driver drove off when officers tried to stop the Mercedes. After a pursuit, it crashed into a curb at the intersection of Baxter and Porras, a sheriff’s news release stated.
Deputies arrested the three after searching the area. They found items belonging to the victim in the car and the suspects’ residences, the release stated.
Ricky Smith, 32, his girlfriend Misty Edwards, 29, and Brian Hatten, 29, were arrested, the release stated. Smith and Edwards were booked into jail for investigation of kidnapping, false imprisonment, conspiracy and evading arrest.
