Slain ICE agent

A 14-year-old boy was expected to be arraigned Monday on charges he killed his father, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent, and prosecutors say they will seek to try him as an adult.

The boy, whose name has not been released by authorities, is accused of firing a single shot that struck Myron W. Chisem in the head as he sat watching TV in the family room of their Carson home.

The boy used his father’s service weapon to fire the shot into the house from the backyard, Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials said.

The teenager called 911, but officials have not said if he told dispatchers he shot his father. Deputies found Chisem’s handgun in the front yard.

Authorities say the boy was upset after clashing with Chisem over his school grades.

“There were some disciplinary issues in the house of which grades was one of them,” Deputy Dist. Atty. Todd Hicks told KTLA-TV.Chisem, 42, was a Navy veteran who had been an ICE agent since 2007.

Longtime family friend Shawn Butler said last week that there “was never any indication” of trouble or tension between Chisem and his son, who moved in with him less than a year ago.

“They had a great relationship,” Butler said. “He was very proud of his son. He loved him very much.”

District attorney’s spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons said Friday it was not clear if prosecutors would seek a first-degree murder charge or a lesser count. The boy is to be arraigned in Compton Juvenile Court.

With an added allegation that he used a firearm, she said, the teenager would face a lengthy sentence if convicted of murder as an adult.
