One person was killed and another suffered moderate injuries in a two-vehicle crash at Moraga and Rancho California roads on Sunday, June 24, sheriff’s and fire officials reported.
Deputies and paramedics arrived at the scene of the 5:20 a.m. crash to find a man in one of the vehicles not breathing, a Riverside County sheriff’s news release stated. He was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6:27 a.m.
The Riverside County coroner identified him Sunday evening as Jason Hart, 27, of Temecula.
Investigators later learned that the victim was driving west on Rancho California when he collided with the other vehicle traveling east on Moraga. The crash caused one vehicle to crash into a brick wall, fatally injuring the man.
The other driver was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol, the sheriff’s release stated.
Two people were trapped in the accident, which was reported at 5:22 a.m., a Cal Fire/Riverside County fire news release stated. The release did not state whether the victims were from the same vehicle, or different ones. The crash closed the intersection for five hours.
