COSTA MESA – Officers chased a man across rooftops who reportedly tried to rob two people Saturday.
Information about the 7:45 a.m. Saturday pursuit was released Sunday morning by police Sgt. Brent McKinley.
Officers first learned of a man who reportedly tried to rob someone. The suspect was said to have approached a victim in a home and tried to steal the victim’s keys. The victim resisted and the man fled on foot.
Then, police were notified of a home nearby where a man forced entry into a person’s house. The second victim also encountered the suspect and caused him to flee again, McKinley said.
Police set up a perimeter in the area, the 200 block of 23rd Street, and the suspect was seen jumping from roof to roof. McKinley said police confronted the suspect, causing him to try to run through the police perimeter, where he was captured and taken into custody.
Timothy Cassidy, 20, was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of attempted robbery, suspicion of residential burglary and suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance.
