A stolen car speeding through San Bernardino prompted a pre-dawn police pursuit and arrest — and the discovery of two fire bombs inside the vehicle, sheriff’s officials say.
The chase began at 1:44 a.m. Monday, July 16, when a dark-colored Honda Civic sped onto Baseline from a side street near Valencia Avenue.
A deputy raced after the Honda, following it to the Sunpoint Village apartment complex along the 400 block of East Wabash Street, investigators said in a written statement. Both occupants ran away. The deputy caught the suspected driver a block away, but the passenger escaped.
Inside the car were two Molotov cocktails, according to the statement. And just before the chase, a vehicle in San Bernardino had been set ablaze by a Molotov cocktail, the statement says.
Sheriff’s deputies and police are conducting a joint investigation.
In the meantime, 21-year-old Emanuel Pedro Garnica has been booked into Central Detention Center for investigation of evading police, possessing a stolen vehicle, and possessing a destructive device, on-line jail records show. His bail is $100,000.
