BUENA PARK – Police on Monday arrested a man and a juvenile suspected of carjacking and assaulting a woman and stabbing a bystander in a gym parking lot, authorities said.
The woman was sitting in her vehicle in the parking lot of a 24 Hour Fitness at the Buena Park mall about 10:20 p.m. when a man and a male juvenile forced her out of the car, Cpl. Andy Luong said in a written statement.
While the man got into the driver’s side door of the vehicle, the woman attempted to flee on foot but was stopped by the juvenile, who pushed her to the ground and broke her arm, Luong said.
A bystander came to the woman’s aid and attempted to detain the juvenile, Luong said. The juvenile reportedly stabbed the bystander and escaped on foot, while the adult male drove away in the stolen car.
Officers found the juvenile hiding in nearby bushes, Luong said, and recovered the knife believed to have been used in the attack.
The stolen vehicle was found abandoned in a nearby neighborhood, but officers later tracked the adult male believed to have taken part in the attack to his residence, where they took him into custody, Luong said.
The woman and the bystander were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities identified the man suspected in the carjacking as Adrian Rivera, 18, of Buena Park. They are not identifying the juvenile due to his age.
Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident to contact investigators through the Orange County Crime Stoppers line at 1-855-TIP-OCCS.
