01 Aug

A foot pursuit of a wanted suspect led to a fatal officer-involved shooting in Hemet shortly after 11 p.m. on July 31, the Hemet Police Department said.

Sgt. Dave Quinn said the suspect died at an area hospital around 6 a.m. this morning.

Officers stopped a suspect wanted for two felonies in the 200 block of East Florida Avenue about 11:10 p.m. on Tuesday evening. A foot chase ensued and the suspect fled to the 100 block of W. Kimball Avenue.

Officers tried to contact the suspect and the shooting ensued. The suspect, whose name has not been released pending notification of next of kin, was wounded and taken to an area hospital, where he later died.

Quinn said the officers have been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure.

The incident is under investigation.
