BREA – A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder Saturday night after police say he stabbed his teenage brother in the arm while both were heavily intoxicated.
Miguel Angel May of Upland was drinking alcohol with his 16-year-old brother in an apartment at the Birchwood Village complex in Brea when the two got into a fight around 9:30 p.m. Saturday, said Brea police Sgt. Jim Griffin. When police arrived, they found the stabbing victim inside the apartment and his brother outside the apartment, although he was not attempting to flee the scene, Griffin said.
“He had blood on him and he was nonresponsive to the officers, but that was because he was so inebriated,” Griffin said.
The 16-year-old, also from Upland, was transported to UCI Medical Center in Orange with non-life-threatening injuries, Griffin said. His identity was not released because he is a minor.
The 19-year-old was booked on suspicion of attempted murder at Orange County Jail.
It remained unclear how the brothers obtained alcohol. The apartment where the fight broke out belonged to a family member, but the relative was not in the apartment at the time of the fight, Griffin said.
The Birchwood Village apartment complex is at 1717 E. Birch St., just off the 57 freeway in Brea.
It wasn’t immediately clear if the brothers lived together in Upland, Griffin said.
The younger brother was not charged, but the investigation was ongoing, Griffin said.
