SANTA ANA – A woman who was found stabbed to death in an alley Tuesday night has been identified as Maria Isabel Cerrillo, 21, of Santa Ana, authorities said Wednesday.
Cerrillo was found about 7:45 p.m. when officers responded to reports of a person down in an alley in a residential neighborhood in the 200 block of North Laurel Street, near Harbor Boulevard and First Street.
Cerrillo was stabbed multiple times and detectives are trying to determine what led to the stabbing, Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said.
“She doesn’t live in that neighborhood and we are trying to find out how she ended up there,” Bertagna said.
There were no reports of an argument or a struggle, Bertagna said, adding that a search of the area did not turn up a weapon.
No suspect information has been released and there is no indication that the stabbing was related to gang activity, Bertagna said.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the stabbing to call Orange County Crime Stoppers at 855-TIP-OCCS, or 855-847-6227, or access its website, occrimestoppers.org.
