SANTA ANA – Police arrested a man Saturday who they believe was driving the vehicle that struck and killed a 75-year-old man Thursday morning.
Victor Manuel Arredondo Anaya, 27, of Santa Ana was arrested in connection with a hit-and-run that occurred near Orange and Edinger avenues.
Miguel Chavez Ceja of Mexico was on a walk around 6:40 a.m. Thursday when he was hit by what appeared to be a dark blue 1995 BMW 740 iL, investigators said.
Police said the car had been damaged. A driver Saturday reported seeing a damaged vehicle fitting the description and followed it until officers arrived and stopped it, police said.
Officers said they inspected the car and confirmed damage consistent with debris left at the crash scene.
Arredondo was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, felony hit-and-run and driving on a suspended license.
Court records show that Arredondo was convicted of a DUI on Dec. 12, 2011.
