YORBA LINDA – Two banks were robbed in the county Monday by men who were reported fleeing on a skateboard, authorities said.
Officials said it is unknown if the two robberies were connected or done by the same man, but robber was seen skating away in both incidents. The two banks are about 30 miles apart and the robberies were reported within two hours of each other.
The first robbery was reported at 10:37 a.m. at Opus Bank, in the 17000 block of Yorba Linda Boulevard, said Jim Amormino, spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
The man was described as being in his early 20s and wearing a ski hat and a dark blue hooded sweatshirt, he said.
The man handed a teller a note demanding cash and was then seen fleeing the bank on a skateboard, Amormino said.
The man dropped some of the cash, which appeared to have been stained with red ink from a dye pack.
At 12:06 p.m., a second robbery was reported, this time in Laguna Niguel, said Lt. John MacPherson.
A man wearing a black beanie and a brown jacket walked away from a teller in that bank with an undisclosed amount of cash, he said.
Witnesses reported seeing that man leave on a skateboard as well.
Deputies are searching for the robber in both incidents.
