LAGUNA BEACH – Two men who police believe are Los Angeles gang members were arrested Monday on suspicion of taking part in a violent home-invasion robbery, authorities said.
Tyrone Lamont Beasley, 21, and Jyvontaye Demetric Harris, 20, were booked into Orange County Jail, said Capt. Jason Kravetz of the Laguna Beach police.
The robbery, which took place Oct. 13, 2012, left two residents injured after they were pistol-whipped, authorities said. The four robbers, who were wearing dark clothing and concealing their faces, took a substantial amount of jewelry.
Laguna Beach police detectives had few leads as there seemed to be no connection between the robbers and the victims, said Kravetz.
In November 2012, however, detectives developed a lead that the robbery may have involved members of a street gang based near the Nickerson Gardens housing project in South Los Angeles.
Detectives conducted surveillance of members of the gang, and a search warrant served by the Los Angeles Police Department later revealed a cellphone that was taken during the robbery, Kravetz said.
Laguna Beach police detectives obtained warrants for two men, who are believed to be “the two main culprits” of the robbery,” Kravetz said.
Both Beasley and Harris are suspected of being members of the gang, Kravetz said.
They were booked on suspicion of robbery, residential burglary, false imprisonment and use of a firearm during a robbery.
Detectives are continuing the investigation, Kravetz said, and two other men involved in the robbery are believed to be still at large.
