John Mclaughlin, 35, was arrested Monday night on suspicion of robbing a CITI Bank in Fountain Valley, police said.

FOUNTAIN VALLEY – A parolee has been arrested on suspicion of robbing a bank last week, authorities said Tuesday.

John Mclaughlin, 35, of Long Beach was arrested there Monday night, Fountain Valley police Sgt. Ted Valle said.

The robbery was reported about 4:50 p.m. Friday at a Citibank branch in the 17000 block of Brookhurst Street. A man handed a teller a note demanding money and fled on foot.

Detectives investigated a tip provided by a witness from a nearby bank where the man had been acting suspiciously moments before the robbery at Citibank. “This tip ultimately led to the identification of John Mclaughlin,” Valle said, adding that Mclaughlin was on parole after being convicted of robbery in 2010.

A portion of the money believed to have been taken during the robbery was recovered; detectives were trying to determine what happened to the rest.
