IRVINE – A 12-year-old boy who has been missing since Monday night was spotted in Costa Mesa on Tuesday, but police are still asking for the public’s help to find him.
Kyva Roberson has not been seen by his parents since Monday afternoon, when he was disciplined and sent to his room. The homeschooled boy is believed to have then left the house. He was last spotted in Costa Mesa about 5 p.m. Tuesday, where he was seen getting off a bus, said Lt. Julia Engen of the Irvine Police Department.
Authorities do not know where Kyva has been spending the night, and asked for the public’s help to find him.
Kyva Roberson and his family recently moved from Australia, and he was a former student at Venado Middle School, Engen said.
Sometime on Monday afternoon, Kyva is believed to have left the house near Deerfield Avenue and Culver Drive and met with a friend. About 3:30 p.m. Monday, Kyva and his friend were filmed by a surveillance camera in a McDonald’s at Culver Drive and Irvine Center Drive.
Kyva is suspected of taking a cellphone and trying to use it, but the phone was left behind in a restroom, Engen said.
Kyva’s friend is no longer with him.
The 12-year-old boy is described as 4 feet, 8 inches tall and 80 pounds. When he left the home, he was seen wearing jeans, a navy blue jacket, sandals with white socks, and a light blue Orlando Magic baseball cap.
When he was seen getting off a bus in Costa Mesa, he was wearing jean shorts, Engen said.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Irvine Police Department at 949-724-7200.
