orange county bail bondsSANTA ANA – A man who fatally shot his girlfriend with a BB gun will not face criminal charges, authorities said Tuesday.

Martha Socorro Marin died April 18, with her boyfriend telling police that he had accidently shot her with a BB gun.

Officers responding to reports of a shooting found Marin, 32, at her home in the 1000 block of South Austin Street, unconscious with a small puncture wound in her upper chest. She was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange and pronounced dead less than an hour later.

Marin’s boyfriend was interviewed by police but never identified since he wasn’t formally arrested or charged. He and Marin reportedly lived together for 14 years and had two children.

Deputy District Attorney Sonia Balleste told City News Service that Marin’s death was determined to be a “freak accident” and that there was “no way” her boyfriend could have expected her to die.
