SANTA FE SPRINGS – A 64-year-old Garden Grove man was arrested Monday on suspicion of striking a vehicle with his big-rig and then fleeing the scene, said the California Highway Patrol.
The crash happened about 1:10 a.m. when Ciriaco Menendez, who was operating a Peterbilt truck, exited a southbound off-ramp of the 605 freeway, the CHP said.
The truck failed to stop at a stop sign at the end of the off-ramp, made an illegal left turn and drove into the path of a Chevrolet, according to the CHP.
The CHP said Menendez then fled the scene and was later detained without incident by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies on the 605 northbound from Washington Boulevard. He was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run, said the CHP.
The driver of the Chevrolet, whose name was not released, suffered major injuries and was taken to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center.
