IRVINE – A man was taken into custody by Irvine police Saturday afternoon on suspicion of robbing a Wells Fargo bank branch minutes before his arrest.
Irvine police responded at 3:50 p.m. to a silent robbery alarm to a bank branch in the 18000 block of Culver Drive and set up a perimeter near the bank, Lt. Dave Klug said.
A short distance from the bank, officers detained Irvine resident Amir Hajisheikhi, 43, who was leaving the area on foot and carrying cash linking him to the Culver Drive robbery, Klug said.
No weapons were used during the robbery or found during the arrest, Klug said.
Hajisheikhi was booked at the Orange County Jail on suspicion of robbery. Bail was set at $100,000.
The case is being investigated jointly by Irvine detectives and the FBI.
