SANTA ANA – Police seek a man who stole more than $2,300 worth of merchandise during an armed robbery Tuesday at a jewelry store.

The robber shortly before 1:30 p.m. entered Don Roberto’s Jewelry in the 1600 block of West 17thStreet and asked to see a piece of jewelry, Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said.

As an employee opened a glass case, the robber took a handgun out of his waistband and demanded that the employee hand over six gold rings, Bertagna added.

The man escaped on foot with the jewelry, which was valued at $2,359. No injuries were reported.

Authorities described the robber as a Hispanic man, 21 to 23 years old, about 5-foot-7 and 140 pounds. At the time of the robbery, he was reportedly clean-shaved, wearing a black hat and black shirt, and was armed with a black, semiautomatic handgun.
