Man arrested after short pursuit in Anaheim

ANAHEIM – A 33-year-old man was arrested Monday after leading police on a short chase in a truck that had been reported stolen, officials said.

Shawn Pettus of Santa Ana was arrested after an officer spotted him in the 2005 Ford F-150 near West Lincoln Avenue and South Stinson Street around 11 p.m., said Lt. Bob Dunn of the Anaheim Police Department.

When the officer tried to stop him, the pickup continued on for about a mile to Lincoln and North Gilbert Street, Dunn said. From there, he got out of the still-moving truck and ran into an apartment complex, according to Dunn.

In the stolen vehicle report, information about the man suspected of taking the truck said he could be armed and dangerous. After a search of the area, Pettus was found and arrested without incident, Dunn said. Officers found a replica handgun inside the truck.
