SANTA ANA – Authorities seek the public’s help in identifying a man who robbed a jewelry store at gunpoint.

Police on Tuesday released surveillance photos of a man who they said stole more than $2,300 worth of merchandise Dec. 3 from Don Roberto’s Jewelry in the 1600 block of West 17th Street.

The robber entered the store shortly before 1:30 p.m. and asked to see a piece of jewelry, Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said. As the employee showed him a gold ring, the man pulled a semiautomatic handgun from his waistband, according to police.

After ordering the clerk back, the robber took several rings from the display case and fled on foot, running east on 17th Street, Bertagna said.

Authorities described the robber as Hispanic with a medium complexion and dark hair, 20 to 25 years old, 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-8 and 130 to 150 pounds. Police say he has several tattoos, including unknown wording on the back of his neck, three dots on his left hand, an unknown letter on his right middle finger and an unknown letter on his right ring finger.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact Orange County Crime Stoppers at 855-TIP-OCCS. Tips can be left anonymously.
