Men reportedly carjacked by armed robbers in Santa Ana

17 Dec

SANTA ANA – Two men were forced off the road, robbed and carjacked by armed bandits midday Saturday, police say.

The victims were driving in the 4700 block of West 1st Street at around 11:30 a.m. when a gray Toyota Camry cut them off, said Sgt. Richard Shin with the Santa Ana Police Department.

A passenger exited the Camry and confronted the driver of the gray 2009 Chevy Silverado, Shin said, lifting his shirt to reveal a handgun in his waistband. The man took $800 from the driver of the pickup truck.

Meanwhile, a second person exited the Camry and confronted the passenger in the Silverado, Shin said, stealing another $400.

One of the robbers then got in the victim’s Silverado while the other robber returned to the Camry. Both men took off, Shin said, leaving the two victims on the roadside.

Neither victim was hurt in the exchange.

Police are searching for two Latino males in their 30s, one wearing a black jacket, Shin said. He said there’s no indication the carjackers knew the victims or that the incident was connected to any previous crimes.
