BUENA PARK – One man was killed and another is in critical condition after stabbings at an apartment complex Monday night that police believe to be gang-related, authorities said.
The altercation was reported in the 6000 block of Fullerton Avenue just after 10:30 p.m., Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi said.
Firefighters received the call as a possible shooting but found the men injured with what appeared to be stab wounds, Concialdi said.
Daniel Antonio Herrera, 25, of Buena Park was pronounced dead at 11:21 p.m. at UCI Medical Center in Orange, Buena Park police Cpl. Andy Luong said.
The other man was found on a lawn, just a few feet from the first man, Concialdi said. He was also taken to UCI Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition.
The men knew each other, but a motive for the stabbings was not immediately known, Luong said. Police don’t know what sparked the apparent confrontation, but believe it was gang-related.
About noon, detectives served a search warrant at a residence on Poinsettia Drive near Stanton Avenue.
Three males were detained, Luong said, and are being interviewed about the stabbings. No arrests have been reported.
