Long Beach police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man suspected of fraudulently withdrawing $47,000 in cash from ATMs throughout the city.

The suspect deposits fake checks into the accounts of unsuspecting victims and then uses a stolen ATM card to withdraw the funds before the check is cleared and found to be fraudulent, the Long Beach Police Department said in a statement. Police believe the scam has been going since September 2011.

Authorities on Wednesday released a photo of the suspect and are asking anyone with information to call LBPD Forgery/Fraud Detective Cory Austin at 562-570-7330. Anyone wishing to remain anonymous may call 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or text TIPLA plus your tip to 274637 (CRIMES), or go to LACrimeStoppers.org.
