Long Beach police were continuing their search Monday for a shooter who killed a man and left three others injured in a Denny’s parking lot in downtown early Sunday.

Police got reports of a shooting at about 2:55 a.m. Sunday in the Denny’s parking lot at Sixth Street and Long Beach Boulevard. Victim Charles Bell, 33, of Compton suffered a gunshot wound to the torso and died at the scene, the Long Beach Police Department said in a statement.

Three other men suffered gunshot wounds and were transported to local hospitals in stable condition.

Police said a motive was unknown, although a preliminary investigation indicated that a man attempted to instigate a fight with four individuals as they were leaving the restaurant and it escalated to a shooting. The incident is being investigated as possibly gang-related, the statement said. The suspect(s) fled in a vehicle and no description was available.
