Norwalk teen slain in possible gang-related shooting identified

Coroner’s officials Monday identified the 16-year-old who was shot multiple times in Norwalk last week in a possible gang-related incident.

Mark Anthony Valle of Norwalk was near the rear of a business on the 11900 block of Firestone Boulevard late Wednesday when he was approached by two male suspects and shot.

The teen collapsed and was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead Thursday morning, said Lt. Cheryl MacWillie of the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department.

Sgt. Pauline Panis said Monday that authorities were still looking for the suspects, who fled the scene on foot.

The L.A. Times Homicide Report lists 24 homicides within a two-mile radius of the business since Jan. 1, 2007.

L.A. County sheriff’s deputy fatally shoots man in Paramount

Authorities are investigating the fatal shooting by an L.A. County sheriff’s deputy of a man early Tuesday in Paramount.

The incident occurred in the 16400 block of Paramount Boulevard around 12:30 a.m. as deputies were attempting to approach a man suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol, KTLA-TV reported.

There appeared to be a struggle for one deputy’s gun, KTLA reported, and the deputy shot the man twice in the upper body. The man was pronounced dead at a hospital, Deputy Aura Sierra said. The deputy involved in the shooting was uninjured. Neither the deputy nor the man who was shot was identified.

 

Sword-wielding man fatally shot by deputy during narcotics search

A Lancaster man who sprang out of his bedroom brandishing a sword during a narcotics search was shot to death by an L.A. County sheriff’s deputy, officials said Thursday.

Deputies went to the home in the 4400 block of Spearman Avenue to serve a search warrant at 9:30 p.m. when the 68-year-old man suddenly exited a bedroom holding a four-foot sword, said Lt. Mary Leef of the sheriff’s department.

The man, who was not identified, raised the sword at a deputy, who then fired multiple shots at the man. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital, Leef said.

Three other people in the home were detained without incident.

No information was available about the narcotics search.
